Bloody poop in 1 yo Rooster! Help!

If you treat him for either or both you really need to treat the whole flock. If he has a problem the others may not be far behind. It is a bit strange that he is acting OK if it is Cocci but don't take a big chance and wait.

What have you been feeding them? I once saw what I thought was a real bloody poop then I remembered I'd canned beets the day before and given them the cooked skins. It wasn't blood at all. I've seen a blue sheen on poop after feeding them red cabbage. Have you been feeding them anything that may have the color red in it?

Try Aureomycin. You can purchase it at Tractor Supply for $7.00. My birds experienced the same thing when they began to mature. One died because I could not get the antibiotic in time. This is a fast disease and can contaminate other birds. Put .8 ounces of antibiotic for every 1 pound of feed. Hope they turn out okay. Do it as quickly as possible and wash your hands.
Aureomycin is to treat enteritis (which can also cause blood in the stool) but does not treat cocci. I would treat for cocci first, then move on to other possible causes like worms or enteritis.

If a vet is a possibility, an early morning stool sample could be checked for all 3 possibilities. And as Ridgerunner said, certain foods can appear to be blood. A picture might help.

I understand. I'm just reading the back of the packaging at the moment and it says it does. It may be because it's older packaging and the formula was changed.

Ok I'll go to TSC today and get the Corid or sulfa something.

He was free ranging so i'm sure he's pooped all over the yard. Before that he was just in a pen, I have other free ranging birds but I can not catch them to treat them. However their poop looks fine. I haven't been feeding anything but regular feed. I caught the cochin and put him in a pen by himself.

His poop is more watery now than yesterday. and he has a pink butt from the watery stools. The red is in every stool and yesterday it was solid and dark red and now its pink and watery. Sorry, I can't get a picture at this time.

This year has been a problem year. Last year was great, no problems, so I'm getting a double dose of problems now. lol

I would cage him overnight after he goes to roost, then look at the stools. A puppy pad or paper towels underneath might help to see it. I would think he should be looking and acting poorly if he had cocci. Many say to use buttermilk or a small amount of milk to coat the intestines to help when waiting for cocci medicine.
