Had 11 button quail eggs hatch today. The last one hatched with a bloody, thick stringy thing coming from the umbilicus. I didn’t see the yolk sac, but I may have noticed yolk on the side of the body as I was ringing him off after hubby put him in the brooder, and got the stringy thing covered in chick starter feed. I rinsed him off, and put him back in the incubator for 6 hours or so. When I checked on him, the string was a bit shriveled. Doesn’t look like it’s going to absorb. Right now, he’s isolated in a box inside the brooder.
Is this a part of intestines, or remnants of a ruptured yolk sac I can snip off? His belly is smaller than the others.
