Bloody shell

The one in the first two pictures looks like blood, the third picture looks like pigment, which I have noticed happens when the egg stays in the shell gland longer than it should.

Just a fun fact: if you catch it fresh out of the hen you can actually wash the color off.

Interestingly, it's been my experience that these eggs that spend too much time in the shell gland are not viable hatching eggs. :idunno, Of course, my sample set has been very small, so who knows.

I actually think that all of the eggs were not blood coated, but were all where the pigment was splotched on one part of the egg. I have had some strangely colored eggs before. One of my black copper marans lays a speckled egg rather than the deep brown the others lay.

Agrees with @Eggcessive ...that is not blood, but pigment.
In the future.... blood will easily wash off, pigment will not.
Tho the heavy pigment coating of dark layers can sometimes be scratched off by bird toenails and human fingernails, most sticks pretty tight.
....and can also be 'globbed on' making for some rather unattractive eggs.
