Bloody spot in egg with no rooster

I've had these hens about a month and have been getting about 5 eggs a week from the green-egg layer. I have no roosters! This morning when hubby broke the eggs to scramble, there was a bloody spot, like it had been fertilized. Any suggestions about what may have caused it? The egg was probably, at the oldest, 3 days old, and has been refrigerated most of that time. The hens did run with roosters before I got them 4 weeks ago. The other info I can give is that it has been VERY HOT here the past 10 days, off & on over 100, but the pen is under big oak trees and mostly in the shade, or the hens can get under their house for shade. I have kept them with fresh water every day (sometimes twice a day if needed), and there has been a breeze most of the time. I just need input to try to be sure there is nothing I could be doing wrong, as this is all new to me.

That is not the sign of a fertile egg. It is quite normal. I would not worry about it.

As stated above, they are normal. They are caused by a ruptured blood vessel during formation of the egg. You will occasionally see them in commercial eggs as well, but less frequently because most commercial operations check for them by mass candling and remove the ones with spots. Again, nothing to worry about.

Thanks so much for your quick responses. Hubby will be much appreciative. With the 1st hurdle of eating a "non-white" egg, I'm not sure how he would manage fertile (some how?) eggs! And he is really very excited about the eggs, and even says how surprised he is over the level of his excitement.
