Bloody stool

That picture looks nothing like intestinal shedding--that is more bloody than I have seen in normal chicks. I would get some amprollium right away--at least you will have it if any are lethargic, not eating, puffed up, pale, and having diarrhea, especially if you see more blood, but I would probably go ahead and treat if it were me.

I'm with you on this one Eggcessive. It appears to be more bloody than normal and definitely not shed intestinal lining. I'd treat with amprolium right away, and even if it isnt cocci...it wont hurt to administer it to your chicks.

This morning she had another bloody one and I saw a bit of diarrhea. All chicks are still active and eating. We will head out to get medicine to add to the water. What does pale look like?

I found when I first brought chicks home and they therefore changed feeds from what they were used to and then when I went from chick to grower they would get a lot more of the lining stools along with a bit of diareah.
Hopefully that's all yours is too.

Have you found the Aussie threads yet? Drop in and say hi :)

I did! I will stop over and say Hi :)
I am hoping that's all it is too. Fingers crossed! But I think we'll treat them anyway

Thanks for the links. We didn't have any luck finding it today at the supply stores we looked at. If I order online, do you think it will get here in time? The vet was not much help at all. Said they would have to physically see the bird for exam and do stool samples then order the appropriate meds in. I'd probably be better off ordering online. What do you all think?

Some vets in the US will test a collective fresh stool sample if they know you. It would be worth the cost of a fecal float if you could get the medicine. Buttermilk is said to coat the intestines slowing the infection process down while waiting for meds. Other dairy products such as yogurt or regular milk may help.
