I was playing with my BLRW chicks and noticed that one of them has a comb that looks like a single comb, very different from the other chicks. They will 2 weeks old tomorrow. Is it good or bad that is has a single comb??

I am really hoping with all the feathering, and tail sprouts that it is a little girl!!!

Is it a good thing or a bad thing? Would I not use her for breeding?

I've been told the single comb can help with fertility issues, but I don't keep and use mine in my breeding flock. So far I haven't had any fertility issues with my roos, so until that happens I'm not using them.

Thanks. I guess she will be put in with the laying flock, if she is a she. Or maybe she can be used for a BLRW orp project.

Yep she has a single comb. My Silver Laced Wyandotte has a single comb too.

This is her at 2 days old:

This is her at 4 weeks old I think:

I asked the same thing once I noticed mine. I guess hatchery chicks just have single combs some time.

Here is the link to that descussion if you want to read it:

Thanks for the link. She is not a hatchery chick. She came from a very reputable breeder in Florida.

That happen to one of my BLRW pullets also from a breeder. She was the last one to hatch I actually had to help her...
