BLRW pullets...but I think one is a roo

We just got these two pullets last week, but I'm now wondering if one is a roo. ( I accidently put one of the pictures above this text, sorry.)

The one on the left in the top picture and on the right in the bottom pic seems to have a lot of comb. If I had to guess I'd say rooster.

Yes, that's the one I'm afraid is a roo. I'm hoping for individual differences among hens, but that may just be wishful thinking.

I should have mentioned they are about 2 months old.

A pullet will have NO wattle development at 2 months. Not on a Wyandotte at least. You have a lovely boy there. Are you allowed to have roos?

Yes, I'm allowed to have roos--we have 20 acres in the Sierra Nevadas. The hitch is I don't think my 12 year old son will ever be willing to eat an egg again if they might be fertilized. And I'm a little worried he might try to hatch all the eggs if he has to sit on them himself.

Yep, one rooster, one pullet.


Could you tell your son that fertilized eggs are like seeds- they won't grow unless "planted", and that you're not actually killing a baby if you eat a fertilized egg?
