A while back I made a thread about a BLRW possible (likely) cockerel. Turned 14 weeks yesterday. Still no sign of hackle or saddle feathers that I can see though I'm terrible at spotting it until they're painfully obvious. Here are photos I took tonight (sorry for any blurriness, he gets skittish), if anyone else can spot them. On Nov 12 I took photos of what I thought were saddle feathers coming in but I assume they would be grown out by now if that was the case.

Sorry, didn’t mean that as an insult, it sounded like one. I was just noting that pics were a little hard to see in.
But I do believe it is male.

100% a cockerel. I raise BLRWs and they do indeed mature strangely, but once they reach this stage it's obvious.

Oh no worries at all, I know they're bad, lol. They were the best I could get with this one. It's the most skittish blrw I have and was running away as I tried to take photos. Doesn't help that it was getting dark too. I can try again in a day or so.
I'm still keeping if its a rooster though I want it to just be obvious already with shiny saddles and pointy hackles. Then I can stop being in denial about it lol

Lol, yeah! I bet he’ll be pretty as an adult, too.

I wish it was more obvious to me. Never been good at sexing birds as it never really mattered. In my initial flock, the surprise rooster started crowing at 4 weeks and I've rarely had baby chicks since.
Def a male you can see his neck feathers are darker
The neck feathers on the pullets are darker too. His just dont look pointy to me.

Definitely. This is my first time with blrws and the pullets look great. Theres a bit of blue lacing on the chest of the one in question.

Note the red upper wing. Tell tale sign of cockerels.
Yeah, people have said that the red coloring is typical of cockerels and its been slow to feather out. I know there are coloring/patterns that are considered "typical" of cockerels or pullets, wish this one was somehow an exception to those rules. Wyandottes not being sex linked lets me keep that up. I thought after a month the possible saddle feathers I saw would be more noticeable. "He" reddened up a little faster but the wattles/comb haven't really gotten bigger or redder. I keep waiting on hackle, saddle, and/or a crow from the BLRW and a langshan.
