I got my first BLRW from the breeder I buy and trade from. He does not breed BLRW but got one on a trade. So he wanted back the cuckoo maran he sold me 12 weeks ago as he needed another breeding hen, when she gets of age. I said ok, what the heck that is an awesome deal. So I put her in the run last night and I came home from work today to find my 2 buff orpingtons throwing her all over the place. My buffs are usually very docile, are BLRW even more docile or is just because she is the new kid on the block. The RIRs, Welsummers, and even my rooster just ignore her and accepted her from the second I put her in. What do you think. I have no experience with BLRW.

Congrats on the blrw. With any breed, when you introduce a new bird there will be fighting to establish the new bird in the pecking order. It may be hard to watch, but it's best to let them get it settled and everyone will be back to normal within a week or so.

Sorry I drew that question out so far. I know that they establish a new pecking order. My question was pertaining to the breed, are the wyandottes or the orpingtons known to be more docile.

My Wyandotte hens are friendly but they are first on the pecking order of the hens anyway... Not sure if that answers your question or not.

Do you have any pictures of your BLRW? I have been on a long waiting list for them. I ordered BLRW from a breeder in March and they ended up being all Blue Wyandottes.

I sold all of them! I was very disappointed. So, I am very jealous!

From what I have read BLRW are very friendly and non agressive birds . My older hens are the bosses in the house with my flock my smallest hen is actually the boss in the coop but she is my son prize chicken from 4h last year with grand champion reserve grand champion and best in show that was last yr so her ego is a little boosted. But i dont have my blrw yet they be here monday . I know when I introduced new reds to my flock I would catch birds pecking at each other and could get them to stop when I was around and after a week they all got along after that.
