Blu-Kote question

We are going to get Epsom salt today and soak her in that with warm water and the apply alot on neosporin to her wound and hope it doesn't get infected. So far it looks like its not infected and we are keeping our fingers crossed. I think she is sad cause she is alone. Her tail is arched down but I talk to her several time a day and I rub her chest and tail and gave her a stuffed animal to keep her company. Anything else we should do?

Splinty she will be fine with just you for company. Another chicken would probably pick at her wound.

Large wounds like that often look bad for about 7-10 days, with lots of discharge and icky appearance. This is the early stage of healing, when the tissues are remodeling and preparing to grow back. After that they often start looking a lot better, so don't be discouraged.

Lola, nothing wrong with Blu-Kote, I use it too, it is great stuff for wounds that are not very deep or where there is intact (although damaged) skin. It is great to use with chickens that are missing feathers, like your hen, as it discourages other chickens from picking at them. This wound just appears much worse than the typical chicken scrape - and - feather loss wound.
