My Brahma rooster died at Easter this year, so I quickly saved up some eggs and hatched them under my silkies. It was their first time being mothers, so only two hatched, one Brahma and another who was a leghorn welsummer cross. As they grew, they both seemed to be the same sex, male. Their wings grew slowly and square, they didn’t have tails until four weeks old, and all the other tell tail signs of chicks being male. The white chick is now definitely male, but I’m now having second thoughts about the Brahma, he doesn’t seem to be developing and pointed feathered yet and he’s 15 week old. His face is pale but he’s just suffered an eye infection, it’s quickly becoming red now, but the comb isn’t big at all, even for a pea comb.

I’ve included photos of his entire growth alongside his adopted brother.
Any thoughts?

Aaaaaah!
That’s for all the replies, I knew I had it coming, was just being hopeful. Luckily she still suits her name, Boots. I’ll try to post more growing up photos on this post later down the line, I can just tell that Spot (her ‘brother’) is going to have one big old comb when he’s older. In the meantime, I’ve got a Brahma rooster to find myself.
Thanks

Just an update for anyone who wanted to see. Boots is certainly a pullet, getting nice and big (sorry I don’t have many good photos of her). Spot is becoming a handsome cockerel, his comb is growing by the day, and he’d keeping clean despite all the rain we’re getting. He is yet to crow though, maybe because he lives with two older boys.
Boots is growing slowly, as you want from a Brahma, love her dark blue colour, I think it will be nice when here face reddens up to contrast this, at the moment it’s pale and she had an ‘old lady face’.

Some photos of these two over a year on. After the moult, Boots has gotten some copper in her dewlap, I assume this is passed on from her sire’s golden neck hackles.

Spot was found dead this morning, I lost over £100 worth of chickens this morning. The wind was so bad at night it must have swept up any chicken too daft to sleep in the sheds.

He’ll be missed, I had a breeding project lined up for him but that won’t get to happen now.

Thank you for the update. I'm sorry for your losses! That must have been some storm to lose so many. Spot was very handsome and Boots looks like she matured nicely.
