blue dots on a brown egg???

Discussion in 'Chicken Behaviors and Egglaying' started by Rachel'sFlock, Oct 20, 2010.

  1. I gathered an egg tonight, that had blue dots on it. Looks like watery dye splashed on it. Anybody have any thoughts on that???
The chooks have had nothing but all purpose poultry feed, granite grit, oyster shell, corn on the cob and fresh green grass in the past 48 hours. Only thing diff before that was some tuna 3 days ago.
Just never know what you are going to get!

It's just some spots of extra color. My girls do that sometimes too. Their paint sprayer malfunctioned [IMG]

Basically what you're seeing are dark brown spots (extra brown pigment) that are coated with extra blume (white calcium) which causes a purple/blue effect.

Sometimes, if your chicken lays a really dark egg like Black Copper Marans, you might have the luck of the entire egg having the coating, causing a purple egg. [IMG]

I love the freckled eggs, maybe 'cause I'm freckled! [IMG]

  9. I'll be darned if they didn't make another blue-dotted egg, again today!
    Wow.
    Very creative, ladies!

I'm a little on the freckly-speckly side, myself!

    Brightest Blessings
