I received a blue game hen from my neighbor, but I'm not sure what exactly that means, because searching up blue game hen on Google brings up different results. She's got dark legs and lays blue eggs. Curious if anybody knows what she is exactly

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

Blue is the name of her feather pattern color.

Game.. refers to several strains of cock fighting type fowl (though not always used for that purpose, it was the original purpose they were kept).. American, Old English, and Modern are some typically seen. This bird does not look "gamey" to me either.

I also would call her an "egger", maybe Easter Egger as they have no set standard of perfection. Many hatcheries are putting out several hybrid varieties with coined terms these days.. like Sapphire olive egger, etc..

ETA.. examples of some game fowl, I'm very unfamiliar with them personally..

Thanks everyone. I did a little more research and I think she might be a Prairie Bluebell Egger. Apparently it's a cross between an Araucana and a white Leghorn, although feather color ranges (probably from the Araucanas color variety).
