I was completely serious. It IS possible that someone moved a DARK blue barred pullet into the black barred birds...that would give you the sex-linking (the red chest feathers) minus the barring and replace the overall black color with blue.
Wyandottes have rose combs, and that bird appears to have a very dark single comb. She is a pullet which, still yet, supports the blue sex-link theory.
There is ALWAYS the chance that there was a mutation along the way...
Ok. I have 6 of them. That is a lot of mutation action, but possible from the same cross. I have wondered about it. I sold one. But I think I will keep the rest, just to see what kind of eggs they produce.
As for the hatchery. I have sent them pictures, and they have said. "uh, wait til they get a little older, then we will be able to tell."
Seems like I know more than they do, half the time, which gets a little frustrating.
They are pretty, but obviously won't breed true, if that is what they are.
Yes, for sure a dark single comb. Not a Wyandotte.
I think I said a blue sexlink in a previous post about them. The bird has yellow legs which rules out orps and the comb is black like alot of black stars. She has the body of a sexlink. Yes you can get blue sexlinks, I know some BYC members have done it with blue roosters and barred hens- it gives blue females and blue barred males.
The yellow legs would come from the Barred rock or the RIR.
A black sex-link is a Rhode Island Red rooster and the Barred Rock hen. Both the RIR and the Barred rock have yellow legs...
Hi! I'm new to the forum (and new to keeping chickens). I was online looking for info on a blue sex link, and found this thread. Not much information out there on them! Here are some photos of mine:
My searching around hasn't turned up much. Should I assume their attributes are similar to black sex link?
