Sorry about that, I guess it goes to show how one person can ruin the reputation for a breed. The flock I saw didnt have any birds that looked alike, they just looked like blue birds that someone was selling as some breed that they probably knew nothing about.
No problem! When I went to pick them up at the University, they said they only give away a select few every spring and that's it. I got 8 of them, now I am down to 6. There is a near by farm that has a smaller breeding group and is a part if the University, all theirs look like mine and so do all the ones at the State Fair. I think who ever was selling them had them a little mixed up!
Just out of curiosity, where did you see them?
Ps, I didn't want anyone to think that I was saying that I am the only one besides the University that has pure blues..lol..I was just adding that in because I am proud of the fact that mine are all pure!
part of the reason they have white earlobes and a more calm demeanor towards other birds is because the university's flock had blue andalusian introduced to make the birds a more solid blue color. originally they were most likely blue reds or lemon blues. i for one think they may have been hennies as that would lend a little more to the name "blue hen" though i believe it is named after the son's of a particular blue hen owned by capt. caldwell.
