Blue Jersey Giants

I can't wait to get mine. I should get them on the 27th... that should be a very good 25th wedding anniversary present ... for me that is. I can hear it now, all she will be talking about is that I bought chickens on our 25th.... Better get something extra special for DW!

I have 5 Jersey Giants (a black roo, 3 blue hens, 1 splash hen).
Every hen has been broody 2-3 times this year! I love my JGs, but I don't want that much broodiness. Anybody else have this "problem"?

I did have a very tall black JG hen that had a voice to match her size. I could hear Xena "talking" louder than all the rest of the hens and she sounded different, too. She was my favorite JG hen, friendly and loved to be held, but I lost her this summer when she had a heart attack. She was just a little over a year old. I miss her so much.

I've had several JG roosters and each one has a nice temperament and a deep crow. Several people told me that they always look for my rooster when they drive by. I love it!

I had a couple that kept trying to be broody, but they kept breaking the eggs. I finally told mine forget about it, it wasn't gonna happen. I don't plan on letting them try again this summer.

I got 5 in my order back in July, 2 roos and 3 hens.
They are my sons and he gave one of the girls to a friend.
They are so big, even at 18 weeks old.
I am a banty person myself, but my sons are absolutely beautiful chickens.
By the way, his are black.
We've heard one of the roos making some kind of noise and it really is a deep sound. At first I thought it was trying to crow but I haven't heard it again.
They all are very calm, but are they as quiet as they are calm? I would have thought we should have heard more crowing by now.
They are housed with my DD's 2 red star pullets for now --
I felt I should move them when they started towering over my banties, polish, and BR's. I also wanted to avoid any overcrowding problems before they started.
I'm even thinking of ordering a few more girls next spring.

nccountrygirl,

If you're interested in a black roo let me know. My son is willing to get rid of one because we don't need 2 roos with only 2 girls and they are going to be so much bigger than any of my other girls.
I'm about 40 miles N of Raleigh.

Thanks Banty, my daughter use to live in Henderson. I want a JG roo but DH says no, but I will work on him and let you know. Thanks for the offer and tell your son thanks too. Laura

Have you heard them make their warning growl sound yet? They sound like little dinosaurs!

Ok I just received 7 five day old black jgs and I LOVE them!! I then saw that there was other color variations ,including blue, and so I really want to "make" my own blue jgs... Does anyone know what I need to add to the stew pot... Lol not that stew pot
