Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Here is a picture of our BLR from our first hatch. I'm guessing roo? They were hatched 03/04. He is from our Foley rooster. Critiques please???
Camera's are so hard and pictures to judge even harder...I like the color of legs. I am wondering about that comb. I am not sure if I see leaders or what it is I see. I do like the shape and fullness of chest that is developing. But wish I seen both legs on the ground with a frontal to see if legs are wide apart. Only time will tell in such a young cockerel. They need a solid year. Nice sized eye and good curve of neck. If you need a splash in your breeding program I would hang on to him and reevaluate in three more months. Not sure if I see a slight curve in the beak or it is camera angle. It makes the eye on the right look lower and forward in the picture. It is something to keep an eye on.
Hi All, I have four BLRW chicks that are three weeks old now. I am trying to guess the sex.. Thoughts?

Chick1:

Chick2:

Chick3:

Chick4:

Thanks!
love the top chick..nice round body..good foundation to start. Not sure on the sex..no tail yet.
.bottom I would guess it a pullet and really nice color. Love that slate blue.
Do these resemble BLRW chicks?

I would guess at least part W..that top one on the left sure looks it.
Nava, me too! That chick is so cool looking he/she is becoming a favorite.

Salinas Chicken, beautiful girls!

and now a question: I feel certain that this is a Roo the only chick to hatch from 30 eggs. Does he have any attributes that I want to cover hens from my new hatch (different line)I see he has a single comb, does his leg color outway the comb? Should I keep him to mix up my genetics? Or start from scratch with this other breeders chicks? Thank you!

This is a cull..

My 9 week olds were enjoying a very warm sunny afternoon by dust bathing near the AC unit. My BLRW (who I think is a splash? she's not very blue, haha) with a couple of her Light Brahma and GLW friends.

What do you mean by the leaders? We are not planning on keeping him but need to lead what to look for. Thank you for your time. Jen

This is an over exaggeration to give you an idea. This is not what I am saying I see at all. I am not even sure I do see it in your pictures. It might just be shadows. Some leaders are barely noticeable. All those little spikes on this rose comb are at times called leaders by some. If you have one that is not supposed to be there it can be DQed by some judges.

I understand now. I'll have to take a look at him when I get home. Now do you know anything about Orpingtons...lol. I posted pics on that thread and didn't hear back.

Anyone have any idea what color pattern Wyandotte this is? I ordered BLR hatching eggs from a long time breeder. I hatched 5 chicks with this pattern. I am going to be very dissappointed if it is not one of the color variations of the BLR. This will be the 6th dozen that I have ordered and only 1/2 of them hatched. Has anyone else had difficultly hatching this breed? I set 4 dozen BLR eggs with eggs from my Brahma flock, but only my chicks hatched. (90%)
The last picture is the 6th chick and the only one that has any amount of blue. These chicks are 7 weeks old.

Does anyone have any hatching eggs for sale close to Texas?

Looks like blue and black laced..they are young..give them some time to lace in more. From what i can see, they look like nice chicks.

i'm guessing whoever had the parents didn't have birds that were properly laced... there are 3 mutations that need to be in place, (and homozygous) for lacing to be correct. The Pattern gene (Pg, Melanizing (Ml) and Columbian (Co).

pretty sure these birds are double laced, which means they have the pattern gene, and the melanizing gene, without the columbian gene. essentially the melanizing gene reverses the colors of a partridge/penciled bird to a double laced.

it's possible they're also just plain partridge, but usually the red is darker for a partridge, and they wouldn't have such dark hackles.

Nicely explained! It look like double lacing to me also.
