Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Do you plan to breed BLRW? I know you don't plan to show. If you want to breed I would suggest getting a roo with a deep mahogany color, not an orangey color. If you just want to keep them as pets, keep the roo with the nicest temperament.

Hello! I am trying to decide which two roos to keep for my flock of BLRW. Not looking for anything spectacular and certain;y dont plan to show. I would just like your opinions on which two to keep! Thanks in advance

First off, cute birds, aren't BLRs great? :D

Agreed, if you're not planning on breeding then I would definitely pick the one who is sweetest to both you and the girls. :) If you have a goal to breed, then I personally wouldn't use any of those, the girls included. I would look for a nice dark blue or black roo with a deep mahogany red. It's best to try and stay away from the golden/orange colors. Splash birds aren't the best to use for breeding because they can tend to dilute the red. Just my opinion :) There is lots of info in this thread on what to look for when breeding, if that's your goal. Either way, enjoy your birds! My BLRs are the best of all my breeds.

honestly, i don't see much blrw in any of them... none are the deep mahogany red, very few show any amount of lacing (which is incomplete at best), and the type isn't there (though it might improve with age?)... as a pretty backyard flock, they're nice, and pick whichever roos you like best. if you want to raise blrw to sell, or sell eggs, i'd start with better stock...

sorry i couldn't be more positive about what you have... the ARE pretty birds, but not what a blrw is supposed to be.

I don't have any real interest in breeding them to sell. I just want a few.Brown eggs and some pretty company in the back yard. It's a bummer the breeder I got them from clearly didn't have great stock. Or gave me her left overs or whatever. Hey are sweet and a lot of fun. I suppose that's what really matters! ;)

yup. as long as you love them, that's all that matters. 8)

i've got a few blrw hatching right now! we'll see how they turn out. pretty sure the 'weeble influence' wore off for the most part. think of this hatch i have 1 that is definitely his, the rest look very pure blrw.

I would defiantly keep this one. Lacing can improve with age i think this one will turn out really nice. The lighter red color might just stay that way but i noticed with mine the feathers started coming in even lighter than yours but two of them really darkened up as far as the red goes as they got older. id keep this guy for sure.
