That is a nice looking chicks..late feathering works well. The color is beautiful. He has really nice arch in his neck too.I.like the width of it. That chest looks like it is going to be nice and full. Beautiful slate blue...It looks like his legs are nice and wide too. Your *Pokie* is developing into a really nice boy! I would be stuffing him with fermented feed and calf manna. Show conditioning him. Here is an update on my sloooow feathering guy! He is now 8 weeks old! When will he ever get feathers????

I haven't named him yet. Maybe I should name him "Slow Poke!"
Can someone kindly tell me if Wyandottes are heat tolerant?
When I move back down to Houston I plan on having a small flock and I like everything I read about BLRWs, though they are frequently mentioned as being cold tolerant. This confuses me a little because they are advertised all over the place here!
Please advise.![]()
He does have very nice coloring. It seems I am going to acquire 4-5 maybe 6 young cockerels from some Foley chicks. They would be different blood lines than mine but still very closely related to mine. They looked pretty good in the pictures, kinda excited to see them in person and see what they grow into.
Now if I could just hatch enough chicksfrom the 4 hens I bought I am getting 1 eggs every few days. Good news is I have 2 blues and 1 splash Nearing POL so I am going to move them into a breeding pen soon.... not sure who to put them with.
Choices I have
1 Black Roo
1 Blue Roo (Foley's breeder roo from 2012)
1 Blue Roo
1 Splash Roo (growing out)
Logic tells me to put the splash pullet with the black BUT the Breeder roo is bigger and SO VERY NICE looking. I may have to do some pen hoping when they start laying. Each has some good qualities to make me breed them. The black will give me all blues with the splash's. The Blue breeder roo adds plenty of good qualities to breed him. The other blue is nice and dark and has great lacing, but he is not as big as his dad. The Splash roo I have growing out is just HUGE. He looks a lot like the GSBR I grew out. He is in that gaggely teenage stage and top heavy looking. I am hoping he will fill out nicely. I need some black to mate with him. To make some I thought I would put some blues with my black roo... then I would get 50/50 blue and black. I would guess they would be pretty dark blue too.
Am I missing something to think about? Maybe 4 months in some pens then move them and start breeding with the other roos.then I may not have that long with good fertility.
I think rotation is the plan. I may keep all the splash with the black roo. Move the Blues to the other 2 roos so I can get some black pullets to work with. I have only grown out 1 and she had feathered legsI think... They should move to my house. They may lay better...
We get 2-3 eggs every day from our three hens. Even in the winter too.![]()
But on a more serious note I would put the black and the splash together for 2-3 months... See what you grow out and if it looks good. If it doesn't then put her with the blue roo.

I have only grown out 1 and she had feathered legs :/ I thought she was a roo for a long time. Almost NO red showing because the black lacing was so thick.
No... they are not moving anytime soon.Hubby really wants me to get rid of 2 that are NOT laying and have not laid in MONTHS.
I think they are old and done for.... but not sure. I told him they might be broody... that stalled him a little bit.
