The rooster almost looks golden laced
Quote: they're both blue laced golds IMO, but they don't have very good Wyandotte type, though that may change as they mature more...
if you're intent on breeding them, breed for gold laced, and just cull any blue or splash laced you get, keeping only black laced gold...
I have one that is 5 months old and I am still not sure of the sex. I am only sure when they drop an egg or get sickle and saddle feathers. At 10 days old it is not possible. The light color chicks will be splash, the brown colored head are usually the blues and the darkest browns that are almost black will be the black variety.at what age are these birds able to be sexed? are all chicks the same color and does it matter in what they will turn out to look like?( darker chicks, darker chickens? and visa versa?) i am getting 10 day old chicks this weekend and was hoping there was some way to make a better guess, pullet or roo?
sometimes you can tell because the pullets might feather faster than the roos, but not always... I have one VERY slow feathering, been calling it a cockerel because of that, but at going on 3 months old, i'm starting to think pullet... even tho the comb is still pinkish.at what age are these birds able to be sexed? are all chicks the same color and does it matter in what they will turn out to look like?( darker chicks, darker chickens? and visa versa?) i am getting 10 day old chicks this weekend and was hoping there was some way to make a better guess, pullet or roo?

all blacks but three..those are blues..sometimes blacks do not have the chipmunk stripe
Most of these are blues, there is one splash on the end
It is really hard to tell..
the light one is a silkie so that does not count
bottom row...blue..blue and splash

headed outside to get a pic of mine, then i'll post the others for comparison since they're all within a week or 2 of the same age.
ok here's the pics... all 3 hatched early may, within a week of each other.
mine was the slowest to feather in.
sorry, he (she, it) wouldn't stand still long enough to get a great shot. LOL
he's a black laced red, and SO dark... from my foley girl.
and the other 2 from the same parents, that (hopefully) I'll be getting back
this guy I hope to add to my breeding program, if his type is good enough... but I want to compare all 3 to make a final decision.
if the black laced has great type, i'll end up putting him with my splash girl, since they're unrelated.
the other 2 could be from either girl, since the roo is blue laced and I have a black and splash girl... but I want to keep my options open as to who's the best to breed where.
