Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

8 weeks pullet or roo? Red laced blue
roo

cute, except for a few problems. 1, Wyandottes don't have single combs, 2, might be buff or gold laced, but definitely not red, 3, looks splash, not blue (not that that's a problem with blrw).

so if you're planning on breeding blrw, I would NOT use this bird, sorry. if you're looking for a colorful egg layer, you won't get that either.

as I've posted before, blrw MUST be RED. a deep dark mahogany red. not gold or buff or fire engine red... the lacing can be blue black or splash for breeding purposes, but once accepted by the APA only blue will be recognized for show purposes. and above and beyond all else, the bird should fulfill ALL the Wyandotte requirements for body type.

and on another train of thought... guess what I found at the swap today???
bantam blrw pullet!
and yes, I know there are issues, like that she's not red and is shafted.. but considering I have NO bantam blrw girls right now, it's at least a step up. LOL.

IMO the LF are way ahead of the bantams in overall color quality... the bantams I've seen (and have/had) have all been less red, but their type has been more uniform than I've seen on the LF.

you can't see it because she's not standing up, but her overall shape is very nice too... she's in quarantine for a few weeks tho, and needs to gain some serious weight. i'd say she doesn't weigh any more than my cochin/blrw (bantam) chicks do (probably a good month younger)... so she gets wormed and fed all she'll eat while hanging out in the quarantine cage (aka dog crate).

Better pic would help. a side shot and one of the comb. the comb is looking pretty pale for a roo but the coloring I can see on the wings looks rooish to me a top pic.would maybe help. it can be hard to guess on splash with the red not a.strong as.it should be.
