Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

She is the only one I have so far. I have her with a SLW Roo and another Splash Laced Red Wyadotte pullet to make more. Nobody is laying though..... but soon. I hope. I will eventually have blue and blacks running together.

I like the color, I have been planning to put my splash Roo in with some SLW hens in the spring once they are laying (to young right now).

that combo will make sex links. silver roos only.

I know, I want sex links, I'm hatching some Rhodebar eggs also right now. I can always take a silver roo and put it over SLW again to get blue laced silver hens, plus a bunch of other colors including blue laced gold.

The majority of my eggs get eaten, but I'll be hatching some eggs just to refresh the flock on a semi-regular basis and also for roosters to butcher. I could just let the birds randomly breed but may as well put some thought into it and make future generations interesting.

Anyone have some tips on taking care if an injured hen... Came home from a veterans day ceremony at our daughters school to find one if my girls motionless on the ground outside her penwith a pretty good hole in the back of her neck and face, one of her earlobes is torn and part of her comb missing. The puppy my husband rescued recently is the culprit. We cleaned her up, I stitched up her neck and cut back the feathers around her head, they were matted and dirty. we have her wrapped lightly in towels in a pet carrier. She responds to sounds, but is sleeping mostly, quite understandable, she ate some scrambled eggs and drank a lil water. Every so often I offer food and water. She eats and has been drinking a good bit.
Is there any thing else I should do?

The poor darling even layed an egg in my lap wrapped in the towel!

Any suggestions, tips and/or advice would be greatly appreciated! Please and thank you

Sounds like you are doing a great job. Just keep her quiet and while she is sleeping her little body is doing its best to repair itself. Use a good antiseptic spray.

Sorry to hear that...sounds like you have done all you can. You didn't mention any antibiotics or some sort of disinfectant on the wound. That's all I can think of, other than a good scolding for the puppy.

I'm not sure if I shared photos of this bird before on here or just on the Cheeseheads thread but after some rethinking what I'm doing I wanted to get more opinions. I was told this pullet was of Foley breeding, I also purchased a splash which died do to previous owner leaving in a vehicle for over 6 hours in unvented vehicle before I picked her up. Anyhow I just want to know if what I was told about her was even near the truth. She is from a Feb 2013 hatch and was also told she had been laying and have yet to receive an egg from her. Sorry for the bad photos and also she is going thru molt when photos taken.

nice dark red... so she's 9 months old or so... how long have you had her? my foley girl didn't start laying until she was nearly 9 months old.
