Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

I'm willing to bet that this has already been answered somewhere in the 500+ pages, but can anyone show me what the differences between types of colors are and what a splash is? I am brand new to chickens and just picked up my first BLRW chicks two days ago and trying to learn as much as I can.

did you mean what a splash chick looks like? or hen?

Blue Laced Red Wyandottes come in 3 colors: Blue, Black and Splash. Splash is kind of white or very light grey/blue, sometimes with splashes of dark color throughout (esp in rooster's tails).

I think Splash Blue Laced Reds are very pretty

Thanks! Mine are all very light so I guess that makes them splash. I'm not familiar with that term though, what does it mean?

Im so excited, my first batch of chicks go into lockdown tomorrow along w some Speckled Sussex and EE. Have more set to hatch on the 11th, 16th, 18-20th. After lockdown will move then to hatching bator and fill back up. This will be my first hatches with my Foley pullets, so nerve wrecking. I hope the have as good color as their parents w no major defects. Also hope I get at least a few blues or splashes, last year w different birds I had no splash and one blue but with different birds. I will definitely be sharing photos as they come.

One more question. What is the difference between a golden laced wyandotte and a black laced wyandotte?
they are genetically different... hopefully someone more knowledgeable can tell you about that..

visually, gold looks lighter (yellow/orangish) while red looks darker (mahogany).

The splash laced bird I posted above is a good example of mahogany/red. This is the correct red color for a BLRW. Note: not all BLRW are correct red, some BLRW are more gold instead of red (usually BLRW from hatchery)

Here is a Black Blue Laced Red Wyandotte from Scott H (note mahogany color), Oprah!

Here is a Gold Laced Wyandotte (note copper/yellowish color)

My roo is my profile pic, would you call him blue or black?
hard to see, looks blue to me? definitely not black
