Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

He looks pretty good to me (but I'm not breeding show birds either). I just got a nice splash rooster too. Hopefully you will get a few black pullets and then your chicks will be 100% blue.
The breeder I got them from says that they don't throw blacks, so I'm guessing what she is breeding are the splash on splash. She recommended that I put him over a black pullet to get more blues. They are hard to find in this area. I need to get my hands on a nice black pullet if you know where I could find some. Or if you know anyone that sells hatching eggs.

She could also be breeding splash to blue, no blacks in that combo either.

Blue to Black= 50% Blue 50% Black
Blue to Blue= 25% Black 50% Blue 25% Splash
Blue to Splash= 50% Blue 50% Splash
Splash to Black= 100% Blue
Splash to Splash=100% Splash

Wha area are you in?

I just ran across some photos I took to show the difference between Black, Blue and Splash chicks. Well, my blues and blacks tend to be hard to tell apart at hatch but the splashes are easy. So...
This is either a Black or a Blue:

Splash:

Blue to Black= 50% Blue 50% Black
Blue to Blue= 25% Black 50% Blue 25% Splash

Yeah...I have a Splash rooster now so I won't get any more Blacks even though my hens are Black, Blue, and Splash.

I live in Barbourville KY. I have searched and as good as I can come up with are the spash that I have. I can order from a hatchery but I likely wouldn't receive decent quality lacing and color. If you run across some hatching eggs or a black hen, give me a holler! lol

I'm in Louisiana so I'm not exactly next door, but I'll keep an eye out. There are two local breeders that I have purchased from and one does have black. The pic below is the roo I chose to keep for the girls. I had 8 here to choose from (blue, black and splash), but he won out due to his personality. I consider him splash, but he has a light blue tint to his feathers. It's not as apparent in the photo, but his color is in between my blue and splash hens. He is soooooo good to the girls!

I think u chose very well, he is lovely. Your roo has the ideal wyandotte "heart" shape. My roo is a littke too upright and tall as far as breed standards go but they are so few and far between in my area I jumped on the opportunity with every intention of breeding back toward the standard. If I can find a nice hen that is. Your hens are beautiful too. Do u have the breeders contact info or by chance would u sell hatching eggs? I by no means want to breed show birds but if i am going to breed I would like to get as close to the standard as I can.

I do have the breeders number, but she does not sell eggs or ship birds. I have never shipped eggs, but I'm not opposed to it. Prolly need to wait another month or so since my girls just started laying a few weeks ago. They were 30+ weeks of age before I got the first egg! But they are so beautiful and mild mannered, I'm lucky to have a good quality breeder close to home. Here's a pic of my crew at chow time.

They are so pretty! I love the blue laced hens, and the splash girls are beautiful also. It would be so awesome if I could get some hatching eggs from you once your girls get out of the pullet egg laying stage and their eggs get larger. PM me whenever you might have some ready and you can let me know how much and how I can pay you. Also, the lady I bought my roo from said her girls took their sweet time to start laying also. That must be pretty common with this breed. I just candled the eggs she gave me and unfortunately they are all clears. Super bummed about that.
