Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

A few of my wyandottes enjoying some food. It's the easiest way to get them to hold still in one spot for photos.

They are gorgeous! I am so jealous. I wish I could get my hands on a nice breeding trio or pair.. heck I would be happy with good quality chicks or hatching eggs. Around here it is like pulling chicken teeth finding decently bred chickens. And you take a gamble with chicks and eggs in the mail, but that is a gamble I am willing to take at this point. Papa's Poultry has some really nice birds, but for 12 chicks (6 blrw and 6 BCM) I am looking at over $200 including shipping. But I may have to bite that bullet.

I live in Barbourville KY.  I have searched and as good as I can come up with are the spash that I have.  I can order from a hatchery but I likely wouldn't receive decent quality lacing and color.  If you run across some hatching eggs or a black hen, give me a holler!  lol

I bought this pair from someone locally last year. However, they actually came (as either eggs or chicks) from someone in KY. Looks like the breeder is less than an hour from you. I'm not sure if they still breed blrw, but it would definitely be worth looking into. I've been really happy with mine. The blue and black cockerels and blue pullet in the above post are from this pair. PM me and I'll send you the breeder's info.

Can any BLRW Breeders give me advice? I am trying to make some cull decisions to set up breeding pens for this Spring.

I think I am going to set up 3 pens like this:

2x splash (mature hens)
OVER: black cockerel

2x blue (1 hen 1 pullet)
OVER: dark blue cockerel

possibly:
5x crap laced pullets
OVER: mature rooster Karl (he has produced good blues)

I have these 5 pullets with poor lacing and I'm not sure if I should try to improve their lacing, or put them in the egglaying flock.
Does anyone have experience with hens whose lacing looks like this?
I would like to use them because of sheer numbers, but not if it's going to hinder my breeding program!

these are my 2 good laced Blues by comparison (they are mother/daughter)

I also have 2 mature splash hens with good lacing and dark mahogany (not pictured) that I am thinking of putting in a separate breeding pen over a young black laced red cockerel.

Also looking for advice from any BLRW breeders about my cockerels. looking for opinions about type, and pairings

I have 11 to choose from:
3 are splash, culls
2 are blacks, considering pairing 1 of these with my mature Splash hens.
6 are Blues. The one I think has the best type is very dark blue, nearly black.

cockerel #1 - dark blue, almost black. considering pairing him with the 2 best blue females above.
I think he has the best type.

cockerel #2 - I like his even blue color. 2nd runner up to pair with my two best Blue females.
not sure about his type though.

cockerel #3 - I like his even blue color and his type, but he is significantly smaller in size than all the other males.
also, he has a weird white stripe in his saddle and tail feathers. it seems to be growing out. I wonder if something stunted his growth and caused that white line in his feathers earlier in life?

cockerel #4 - this is the black cockerel I think looks best, these are not good photos of him but he was hard to catch.
alternative idea - pair cockerel #1 (very dark blue) with the splash hens instead of this black.

Lastly...

look at this cockerel with no lacing! I think he has good wyandotte type but his color is weird. He is all blue with no lacing at all.

he is going to be culled but I had never seen anything like this before so I thought I would share him.
