Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

I'm definitely agreeing with all that so far. That roosters type seemed much better when he was younger. These were all from the same hatch, April 12th I think. I'll try to get better hen pictures. One of them has incomplete lacing so I wasn't planning to use her, but the rest seem to have decent lacing. I've read that the splash seem more brassy in general and was thinking they were decent in color for splashes. I'm mostly thinking I'd only breed blue to blue, as I've read that gives the best results. I agree the blue seems to be very dark which I was happy about, and for the most part the reds are fairly deep. I'll get some more pictures tomorrow. Can't wait to hear what you have to say!

Here's a couple I just found in my phone. I originally though I had only blue and the one black rooster, but like I said, I think some are splash, like this guy. He looks terry molty though.

There are actually 2 with about the same blue color as my favorite with bad type, the other one may be better, I'm going to have to go stare at them lol

Hi , i was wondering .. where did you get your birds from ?
I received 12 hatching eggs from a couple on Craigslist who's incubator broke and was wondering if I was interested. We were already trading some birds with them and they brought it up, they ordered them from a hatchery I'm pretty sure

This is driving me nuts!!! I simply cannot decide whether this sweet little thing is a cockerel or a pullet. I have zero experience with this variety and only have my splash laced red girl (same age) too compare him to. I keep thinking he's a little dude, but I'm not even 100% sure what to look for, so my opinion doesn't count for much. I know saddle and hackle feathers should be pointy, and I know about roo behaviors and the way they tend to stand (all of which this little one does) and have seen "him" many times practice sparring with my 17 week old blue ameraucana cockerel. He will be 15 wks old on Sunday, is much bigger than his sister, very protective of her, and seems to be the leader of the "younger crowd" around here. Also, I was told by my breeder that this particular line of BLRs tend to mature pretty slowly, so I'm still holding out hope that he is, in fact, a he. It also occurred to me recently that he may not crow since there are two older cockerels here, the oldest of which seems to have claimed all crowing rights, so he may not ever crow. PLEASE tell me I have no reason to worry and that he's an awesome little boy!! I really want a lap rooster, and since he's already a lap chicken, I just need to know! Let me know what you think and what to look for in the coming weeks!! Thanks!

Sorry this one is blurry...it's the best one I got of the coloration on his wings/sides.

ETA: I'll add pics of his "sister" and him tomorrow if comparing will help. I wanna show her off, anyway...she's beautiful!

Just my opinion, but considering comb/wattles, I say boy. Feathering is no real help in this breed until later. Legs are a bit petite, but head shape and glowing red comb tells me boy. Even in the blurry pic, you can see how developed his wattles are. Fingers crossed for you, my gut says boy.

You have a splash hen and a black laced red Wyandotte there. My splash hens are very pale in the comb also. I would do some research to compare to others if you still are not sure. If you crossed a black laced red and a splash, you should get blue laced reds. The color would need work though after this type of crossing I'm told. The red should be much darker if you are shooting for the proposed breed standard.

Haha, I commented on the wrong quote and. Ow it won't let me delete this comment...sigh.
