Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Pics
Can you stand some pics of my BLRW I got from Jerry Foley yesterday???? (I also got a trio of Silver Penciled Wyandotte bantams and a SLW chick and a Chocolate Orpington... they hatched in the egg bucket in the barn with all the heat and he didn't want to brood them LOL)

This is the neck of the oldest hen I got. SHE IS SOOOO PRETTY!

He said she laid an egg a day at 3 years old. She and the roo I got, gave him is first REAL good start at BLRW.

I don't know if you can tell from these pictures but HE IS HUGE! Thick from one end to the other!

I got the impression when I put the beetles and worms in the pen that they had never had bugs fall out of the sky before LOL

This girl has some very nice lacing too.

A group shot. They are all so nice and very different too. They are molting too

This is a bigger view of the older hen that is so pretty.

Another hen

I know the roo was shown and won. And I think he said the older hen was a show winner too. I don't show and don't really plan to so I didn't really catch all that.

So I now have 4 laying hens and a FABULOUS Roo too

Thank you.

At 6 weeks, are we only looking at waddle and comb size and not feather development? What age do the saddle feathers come in about? That was a small sample of what I have right now. I am just trying to learn what to look for.

Thank you.

Mostly you can go by comb/waddles(not always) and look at the pattern/coloration of the feathers. Saddle feathers and hackles won't develop for months-and by then, you 'll know what it is for sure.

You are looking at waddle and comb. Also the saddle feathers dont come in until much later. On the wing the males are often more solid in red coloring than the females. Also sometimes I have noticed that the males have a "scrappier" tail at first than the females who are much more formed.

If the 6 week old chicks with slight waddle development are males, at what age do you see it in BLRW females?

I have 12-14 week olds that only have very slight wattles and they are a lot more pink. Much more red and larger in the male.
WOW I hope I have some pullets, because I can see wattles under every chin

Oh well. I hope to hatch some shipped eggs after this hatch.
