Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

So, here is my little BLRW/ She is 10 days old. I am concerned about the size of her wings. Are they suppose to be this thin and small at 10 days? I don't remember the BLRW I hatched 2 months ago having such little wings. Other chicks I have hatched have much larger wings than this one. Is this a Wyandotte trait? Is this normal?
might want to hang onto that lil guy.

Quote: It is said that you get better tail feathers with a slow feathering gene. This is a new color and where it needs the most help is in the tail. There are people on this thread who have done the right thing and bred this breed the correct way..there are some beautiful birds on here. In new colors it is hit and miss, as it is developing. The slow developers seem to have the best tails. Not always. I think it is for the improvement of the breed if more shared information and notes. Not only what works..but what does not work.
Hard tail feathers is not something to worry about early in a breeding program. The body need to be right first..than the lacing and those beautiful wide tents that are so hard to achieve and than to reproduce.
It is not enough to have one or two..the right combination needs to be found to reproduce consistently. Finding a slow feathering bird is a bird to keep..it can be used for correcting..IF the body is correct and no DQ's.

Hi,
I have been on this site many times but just joined today. I would like to get some opinions on my rooster. I believe my hens are top notch but got my roo from another flock. Please give me your opinion about him. Should I replace him? His neck feathers are a little lighter than I would like. I have my first 2 babies from him now and plan on hatching more soon.

Thanks for your input!

I love blue laced reds and have some very beautiful birds I would like to share pics of with everyone. I think they are one of my personal favorites.

I have a rooster and 4 hens. From the pictures, is my rooster a splash and are my hens black laced? I'm pretty sure about the hens except for one. But I've not seen a splash and a blue side by side. Thanks.

these 2 girls i would say are blue laced, not black... the black would be a deep black and should have the beetle green iridescence... like this girl.

my (dark) blue laced roo,

and my splash laced hen.

So the black color on the tips isn't the tell? Ive been reading this whole thread.

I picked out these four from a total of 12 and they were definitely black laced compared to others that were blue laced. I didn't realize the whole bird would be black.
