Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Just as a side note for those choosing new chicks and you actually see them before choosing.

They should be chestnut brown on the head. Black will have some black in there too. Splash will still have a chestnut brown head and a lighter body fuzz. Choose chicks with fatter rounded heads and shorter beaks. The body's should be little round balls.

Silver laced

this is a fat body..it is not correct for a Wyandotte. It is too long, This is an English Orpington chick.

These are BLRW and silkie chicks. You can see the splash, and they have brown red on the heads, and in the stripes. They are round butterballs and look fatter than long.

I can see ls' s tush in the last pic!!! Too cute :)

I hear ya!!
Poor rae; blackie is starting to steal his girls!
I have to sometimes "carry" blackie around because he gets a little pecky!
well I hope you nip that in the bud real fast, they are not shy to challenge.

I bathed my poor moulting cockerel for the show this morning and blow dried him hoping that helped. It did help, but holy cow he is all quills and pin feathers. He loved his blow dry so well he squirted me...lol

Do you have any BLRW eggs yet?

Haha bet that was a joy! Only a few days left :-( hope he fluffs up! You can bring blackie in his place ;-)

She is laying. I am thinking I will seperate her, and maybe pop a few in the bator when I get eggs from cc.

I still love babies in the house!

ugh...lol..

I have her in with my naked boy..I am not sure if he is breeding her or not. I have never seen them even be nice to each other....lol

She is really pretty..I wish she was a little bit larger..I doubt she will get to 7lbs.

That will work.

Put the BLRW all together in an area you can observe if your full quarantine is over. Not only do I quarantine a bird for 30 days, I also add a few of my birds the last two weeks. It is important to add at least one of your established birds to the new bird before you allow them all together.
Why?
Disease and sickness.
Something as simple as pox..and those nasty other diseases go dormant and a host can carry it with out you seeing any out word signs. Some birds recover from a disease and become the wick to spreading it to your whole flock.
When you add one of your birds to the new bird any illness will usually show up in two weeks, you just need to cull the few birds, and not the whole flock. If you let the bird into your population with out this step you could have an unpleasant experience.

Good solid advice
