Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

well, my new bantam girl is giving me fits... LOL she hasn't been much interested in crumbles, pellets or seeds... but I did finally find something she WILL eat. hopefully enough to get some weight on her...

I started a batch of fermented feed. so far she's just had soaked, since it's a bit soon to get the fermentation going, but she's eaten (and pooped) more today than the last week... I also gave her a buddy, in the form of a half cochin half b-blrw pullet around 7 weeks old.

not the most flattering of poses, but i'm ejoying watching her eat now, rather than just sit on her perch doing nothing.
and i'd say the smee-chin (smee = my bantam blrw roo, momma's partridge bantam cochin) has definitely got the 'dotte tail going on. so I think I know which direction i'll be breeding her towards. if only to intensify the mahogany in the lines. she's got a good dose of that from her mother for sure. should get some good lacing bred back to smee also, since she's homozygous for pattern gene, heterozygous for the other 2...

her brother on the other hand, has a more cochin-esque tail and will likely be put over a silver laced cochin pullet (since he's also blue) to work towards my blr-c project I've been contemplating.

yes, she does appear double laced... which means she won't pass completely laced offspring... she is lacking (completely) the Columbian gene (Co) required for proper lacing (clear center).

I sold my bantam blrw hen that turned out double laced. the one cockerel that survived is incompletely laced, but may still be useful since he does carry one copy of the Co (from Smee). but he's black laced, and not very red... so i'll wait and see how he matures, to see if he might be used for breeding type, if not color.
