Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Hey everybody, hope you all had a great Christmas. Thought I'd post some updated pictures of my different looking BLRW. I went on vacation leaving behind chicks and came back to mini chickens. They are very sweet but are not being treated well by some of my older hens. I'm constantly outside scolding the big girls. One of the little guys decided to wait until a big girl had her back turned and took his/her revenge by jumping up and giving her a few pecks before running off. Of course the big girl who got the licking turned out to be a docile Salmon Faverolle who's actually nice to the little guys. :/ I'm really liking how they are turning out, some pretty lacing. They are bluer than I thought they were going to be, I was expecting them a lighter/white color like other splashes.

For reference, here is what they looked like as chicks, nothing like BLRW, a solid blue/gray color.

I'm guessing this is a splash BLRW? This was 10 days ago and it's starting to get some red in its wing feathers. Still waiting for any sign of tail feathers. Are these slow to feather out? My other 3 non-wyandottes are already getting back and tail feathers and they should be approx the same age.

in my experience, the slow feathering ones are cockerels. the pullets seem to feather in as fast as other breeds... it may not hold true 100% but that's MY experience.

The two BLRW I got out of this hatch. (blue dots are my guess at sex ;-) ) Can't wait for these guys to feather out to see what I've got. One should definitely be blue since daddy is a splash and mommy is a black. Fingers crossed!

mark my vote down for female on the right ;) and update us later please!

OMG! Of course I remember those handsome chicks! wow, I have to say I am extremely surprised you found two pullets in the mix?! If I remember right they were all pretty red in the face, that's very cool. I always find myself looking back at photos to see what I can see now vs then.

I also notice that the females feather faster than the males, but not always. sometimes there are fast feathering males that throw everything off. I also look at the width of their comb. but none of this is an exact science, just things I'm trying to notice as I raise them, maybe in a few years it will become clear to me

those splash chickens sure are beautiful to look at! I love them. :) Are you looking for critiques toward the SOP or what kind of feedback?

close up pictures of donatello's comb:
Do you see the 3 small spikes at the top? I cannot tell if the side sprigs are trying to be comb bumps, or leaders. I think that if he has 3 leaders, it is points off, but not DQ.
thoughts?

looking at some of my chicks, I now notice that some have one, large leader/spike; some have 3 very small spikes.
I think this guy must have had this all along, but I did not notice until it was big and pronounced.
I do have other options for males as backups if this is real bad..........
