Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

I entered a pair at one of the local fairs. Show stoppers. Literally! AI testing was performed on all birds entering and my results came back three days into fair as non conclusive. Poultry barn was shut down immediately and all birds under quarantine until the results of a second round of testing finished. My flock was quarantined and tested also.

No AI and the hen entered got best of show.

On another note- leg feathering showed up again in some birds this year. Thought I'd culled enough to rid that. Anyone else ever see that genetic throw back in their flock?

That’s so lucky they didn’t immediately cull! There’s been no leeway here 😩 Glad to hear it came back negative and congrats on the Best!

Here’s another one of yhe pullets we hatched out this year. I typically don’t love the black laced ones as much but I think she’s going to turn out nicely.

Result of efforts for flock/breeder increase this summer were dismal. Have a second incubator so one can be a dedicated hatcher and other have faster rotations of egg batches.

The short of it is my water for humidity would evaporate before I got home for work many time lowering hatch rate considerably and increasing cockerel percentage of what hatched. Certainly going to make some changes next year.

What I can't change much is the killing fields the smartest and quickest birds survive from mink attacks in late spring to raccoon conundrums when fall asleep waiting for dusk to close them up and of course the hawks come summer. 55% survival rate made this year the worst predator problem in over 10 years. My final count was 14 birds with only four being pullets. Of which I culled and sold two. But enough of excuses, here are my two new additions as future breeding hens. Oh, and I kept two cockerels to compare with sire this spring.

They've got more tail lift than shown, still not as much as they should.

These are the BLRW of ordered from a hatchery. They are five weeks. Are they true BLRW? Also the dark one is feathering slow. Is that normal? My light is a puffball 😆
