I am no Wyandotte expert. I know what I like in Wyandottes and it is usually not a conformation thing with them. I don't show so I can't say what is close to perfect and what is not. I do know that side by side my Foley rooster is a much nicer bird than my Buddy Henry bird but the personality and temperament on both are fantastic!
I read the standard and breed closely to what it says but there are some things I just refuse to get picky about. Leg color is one of those. I have never been one to be concerned since I do not show. That won't break the deal of me keeping a chicken if it is sweet and lays well. Besides, having owned and still own show quality birds has shown me that they are not near the egg producers or as smart of a bird as those that are only pet (breeder) quality. I am sure there are others that may disagree.
Okay, saying that, I love what everyone has shown on here! Gorgeous birds! The color and lacing is fabulous and I have drooled over the photos a lot!
Straight combs happen and I never worry about it. However, I would only keep a rose combed rooster, not a sc. I have and do keep sc hens and breed them. The vast majority of the chicks are rc.
Roos do not grow slower than pullets but they may feather in slower. You probably have a pair there, with the roo being the larger one. I have been fooled before though.
Egg size....the BLRW have not impressed me with their eggs. The SLW lay a bigger egg for me as do my GLW but those are mostly hatchery stock and not used for breeding. My breeder Wyandottes just don't impress me with egg laying or size for the size of bird they are. I have a few hens that are close to the size of my smallest Jersey Giants and still their eggs are much smaller. But the chicks pop out fine and grow well. I never hatch pullet eggs because of the small and weak chicks that are liable to hatch out.
Nava, your roo is breath taking. Some may not care for him but I think he is lovely! I would certainly keep him!
