Blue Laced Red Wyandottes

I agree that it's likely one is splash and one is blue.... here's a good reference photo from the internet (l to r : blue, splash, black)

So.....is it correct to label each of these birds as BLRW’s? I’ve been told recently that the middle bird is actually a Splash Red Wyandotte, and not a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte (Splash).

The middle bird would be most accurately called “splash laced red Wyandotte”.... but many places call them “blue laced red Wyandotte” and then just note the splash color as you mention.

I’ve only recently seen them for sale listed separately from a couple of places.

Many/most times that you see BBS (Blue-Black-Splash) varieties listed there is some “fine print” that states that due to the fact that blue does not breed true that you might receive some of each color.

But some hatcheries have apparently started to pair splash and black parents to ensure 100% blue hatches, and/or splash x splash parents to ensure 100% splash hatches. Cackle hatchery comes to mind, as they offer black laced red, blue laced red, and splash laced red seperatly.

I didn’t completely answer this in the last reply so....

The bird on the right in the previous pic would not be called Blue laced red, because it doesn’t carry the blue gene. But those three birds could all be sisters, If both parents were blue. Make sense?

It all makes since, I was just wondering. This is my first time having this breed along with a few others (such as Polish, turkin, Brahma, Blue Andalusian and speckled Sussex)
I didn't order them I got them at a feed store.

Also what color eggs will they lay?
