Blue Marans chick - pullet or roo?

I have a 12 week old Bule Marans chick. It is my only Marans, so I don't have any others to compare to. The comb is quite small and not red, but I hear the chick make strange growling, creaking sounds sometimes, which make me worried that it may be trying to crow. Any guesses here?
