Blue Marans--Help!!

Quote:
Blue and Splash, if the parents are genetically pure.

Blue x Blue = 50% blue, 25% black, and 25% splash

Blue x Splash = 50% blue and 50% splash

Why is Black the key? That I don't understand yet. I have a two chicks out of about 100 hatched that are under melanized. They are completely black with a black comb and I believe their eyes are also black. Yet they came from good stock, good type of BCM's.

Can anybody tell me what birds you breed to get your first blue maran? I understand the blue color gene. I just don't know how to get started in the blue marans.

I found another site in the UK that has what is called a Belle Blue/Haze. It looks like a blue maran. I'm just not sure if it really is. I know (ok, I think I know) that the true maran will have feathered legs. This one doesn't.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!
You can better ask the marans clubs all over the world.
I am not a geneticist, but I know that there are two lines of pure blue marans.
The french one is feather legged. The other one is clean legged.

Blue haze is not a pure breed. It is a hybrid. You can see more information here:

The Blue Marans are a recessive gene bird.
The Black Marans is the original bird from Marans, France
The Black Copper is what most people want
In order for a bird to be a Marans it must have feathers on the outside of its legs.
There are differences in Marans Clubs, when I was getting started in the breed I went to both the French Club site and this one http://www.maransofamericaclub.com/ which hold to the FC standard and it is in my country and my language (so I don't have to translate French to English in my head).
