Blue or Self-Blue (lavender)?? What Color D'Ya Think?

Thanks, Jody. It seems that he's more like a Cochin than anything I know. I guess it really doesn't matter except if I go to sell him in the future, to tell people what he is. I dont have anymore bantams or any Cochins, either, to breed with him. He may just get him a few of my youngsters who are destined to be part of my laying flock to look after. DH likes him and he is very cute, like an avian cocker spaniel.

I don't know, I thought it looked Cochin-y except for the foot color.
That's a neat tidbit about lavenders and shank / foot color.

Where did you get it, what hatchery? Looks exactly like my self-blue bantam cochin from Ideal. How old is it? Are you sure it is a boy? Looks just like my little girl that just started laying at 6 months.

Shadow came from Ideal via the feedstore. He's just about 8 weeks old now. Your girl is very pretty-looks like a match for mine. Wish he was a girl, but at 8 weeks, that comb is very red. Of course, lately, I'm seeing my Wyandottes, also from Ideal, developing combs and wattles that are quite pink for 8-9 weeks old and they seem to have pullet color patterns, not male. I've had SLWs before and they didnt get pink at all till about 3 months old. Maybe they're breeding for early maturity, if that's possible? Dunno, but it's weird.

And yeah, I'd agree that it's a boy....... but those Cochins can apparently throw ya for a loop

So who knows LOL

But, seems like a lot of people are posting lately of super early eggs, birds developing quickly, etc...... maybe it's the planets or in the water or something... LOL What does the almanac say? LOL

I am definitely noticing some of the hatchery birds, the pullets, turning red in the face way before they normally would have. At least my Wyandottes are all doing it this year. Very weird. Throws off the sexing, for sure, when I used to be able to say to someone they had a boy because Wyandotte girls dont get that red that soon. I have two Silver Laced and one Gold Laced, all under 9 weeks old that are just as pinky red as you'd expect a cockerel of this age to be. I think I'm going to post their pics in another thread and ask WHY does my girl look like a boy, LOL?

I must say, I really thought this girl was a guy because her comb was red really early.
