Ok, well, I have difficulty differentiating Muffs, Tufts, and now Beards.(?!)
I understood Muffs is feathering that located under the earlobes that follow around the head towards the neck.
Yes, muffs are the sort of downy feathers that cover the sides of the birds' face, much like earmuffs. Tufts are actual feathers coming out in beautiful curls from a little flap of skin just near the earlobe. The beard is the downy, fluffy feathering under the chicken's beak.
Araucanas have tufts. Ameraucanas have beard and muffs. Easter Eggers can have beard and muffs or a clean face. Rarely do EE's have tufts because you'd need to have true Araucanas to get them.
ETA - A bird can actually have all three, but they cannot have only a beard or only muffs.
