I have 5 Blue Orp/buff Brahma chicks. 4 are light to medium blue gray. One, a shy little chick, had almost black down, now is growing in what looks to be almost black feathers, no blue or gray at all, and the down on her chest is like a light tan.
I guess my question is Speckledhen, Is it possible that this chick had different parents? She is very timid, too, unlike the rest.
She never comes running for yogurt, but will take it if I offer it to her separately. And she sleeps with the silkies. I named her Chloe, she's so shy. What do you think?

LOL, you mean not a Suede/Caroline baby? Nope, they are in their own separate coop. Caroline lays an egg like no one else in that particular pen, almost white, as you saw. And she has no access to any other rooster. Could it just be a black chick as opposed to blue? Several have gotten black chicks from that union. Remember, blue is just a dilute form of black, plus Caroline has the black on her as well in her tail and collar areas, so black is a definite possibility. She sounds very sweet!

She is very sweet! We're getting used to eachother now, LOL I just thought I'd ask, not knowing, just curious. It would have been interesting to have an "unknown child!!!"

added: Cynthia, you should see that roo with the gold!!!! He's getting more and more, maybe he'll be a splash!

Karen, I think I was amused, not at you, but at wondering how tubby Caroline would go galavanting over the fence to play with Hawkeye or Scout or vice versa. Except for Scout, none of them could jump a fence, and if Scout got in with Suede, boy, would he regret it! They are definitely well-contained so I know who's the daddy of who, LOL. But, that would be interesting, wouldn't it?
It's been interesting how the color combination has come out in these chicks! What a cool thing it's been. I'm glad you like them. I'm collecting Orp eggs for myself this week and I even put one of Caroline's in the collection because everybody seems to have these little beauties except for me!

What?????? You don't have a Caroline?????? But EVERYONE has a Caroline!
Well, the black chick is still black. I know Caroline isn't two timing Suede, but since I have a Silver, and a Charlotte, I thought there might have been another egg from someone else. I named her Chloe, and she's real sweet especially when she sleeps with the silkies, all huddled up. She's also been taking "dust baths" in the feed bowl, LOL.
As far as my rooster goes, he is getting more and more gold feathers! They seem to mostly be on his chest and around the base of his neck. I'll wait a few days then take his picture, you will not believe it. I hope he keeps it. It sure is fun watching them develop into their own little persons!

That's very definitely a Caroline/Suede baby you have there. Can't wait to see Chloe and her brother, too. No, I don't have any of those crosses. I have almost all purebreds right now, but after seeing all those babies everyone hatched from Caroline's eggs, I just couldn't resist trying to get one for myself.
