Is this normal or a color defect and not desireable? I will try and get a good pic to show you guys tomorrow.

Where did you get him from?

I got him froma fellow BYC'er who got him from one of the Moderators. Not gonna name names but both are very fine upstanding chicken ppl.​

Did your roo just reach maturity? That seems to be when it shows up- when they are almost full grown.
 
He's about 10 months old. He's not super tame or friendly. Yesterday was the first time I got him to take treats out of my hand. I guess his love for grapes was finally stronger than his fear of me. So, it may have been there for a while I just never noticed it.

I am not an expert but from what I am learning that is something you don't want to use in a breeding pen. So to answer your question it is not a desirable trait that you want to pass along.
