BLUE ORPS HATE ME!!

To lessen your pain - I lost Cyn's eggs twice and another shipment of 18 last fall. I was ready to throw in the towel. 4 weeks ago today I had 12 of 24 eggs hatch. 4 blues - 3 cockerals.

This is exactly why they are rare....lol...Been there, done that!...

Well, I dont feel as bad as I did before. From Jim Cox I hatched 4 blues, from Cyn I have 1 blue and 2 blacks. From Julie I did terrible, not a one hatched. I felt so bad about that batch. I have another batch cooking from Julie that is at day 15, and 6 look good. That will probably be my last batch of shipped eggs for a while, Im afraid its getting too hot to ship down here.

I sure would love a splash out of this last batch.

Uh oh, don't say cooking, Cyn doesn't like that. Never say cooking when incubating.

They are doing better. One hatched all by it's little self. I have to admit, this is the best blue orp hatch yet. I've got 3 not sure one will make it, but I'm hoping.

I have 44 orps in the bator now from 3 different people - blue, black, splash ... Wanna take a guess how many will hatch blue? LOL

Well, considering you and your phenomenal good luck, you'll probably get the exact number, color, and sex you want!!!

* Just curious, folks-- any theories on WHY the blue orps are so hard to hatch?? Do the eggs need something different? Longer time? Higher Humidity? Their mommies?? Is it just a weakness in the strain?

DK, I have no problem with hatching them HERE from my own eggs, but shipping is another matter. They are very delicate and susceptible to shipping stress for some reason. However, when I crossed my Blue Orp rooster over my Buff Brahma hen, those were some of the toughest chicks anyone ever hatched! With even the shipped ones, they pipped early and would literally burst out of their shells and were humongous chicks! Very vigorous babies...hybrid vigor is no myth, let me say.
