Hello we just ordered some chicks from ideal ( they're coming in August). Some of those chicks are 4 st.run blue silkies. Can someone explain how the blue gene works and what is a splash silkie?

So if we get splash silkie it will still be a blue silkie just with a different pattern and just classified as a splash silkie? The blue color of chickens is caused by one copy of the splash gene and one copy of the black gene. A splash chicken is a chicken with two copies of the splash gene. The splash color is light gray with flecks of blue.
Here are the crosses that can make blue chickens:
Black x splash: 100% percent of chicks from that cross will be blue.
Blue x blue: 50% blue, 25% splash, 25% black
Blue x splash: 50% will be blue and 50% will be splash
Blue x black: 50% will be blue and 50% will be black
Splash x splash: 100% splash
When ordering blue chicks from a hatchery, you could get blue, black, or splash chicks because their breeding stock could be a mix of blue, black, and splash chickens.
If you get a splash silkie, it will be classified a splash silkie, not a blue silkie. So if we get splash silkie it will still be a blue silkie just with a different pattern and just classified as a splash silkie?
Okay, thank youIf you get a splash silkie, it will be classified a splash silkie, not a blue silkie.
