Blue Slates

If I got turkeys, I'd have Blue Slates! Gorgeous! But, then, you know I love blue poultry.

When I had turkeys (I'm getting more again soon) they would roost in the chicken house at night. Sometimes they would try to roost in trees too. But, chickens do that sometimes as well (certain breeds moreso than others).

A hen turkey yelping can just about be as loud or louder than toms gobbling...it's higher pitched and more shrill..... *shrug*

Like having big, chuffing ghosts following you in the gloaming. Though they're not modest in light of the sun:

They probably cause the hawks to think again, but turkey hens are the best at ID'ing aerial predators (always the first, heads tilted to the side, eyeballing the sky, giving out with the worried little throaty warble: "I can't tell what it is, but I probably won't like it").

They really hate these (I can't hear them unless they go to whatever they use for afterburners - Whiteman AFB 60mi. SW - B-2 farm). The turkey hens hear them before they appear over the horizon.
