Hi!

I have a 10 week old Blue (Splash) Ameraucana that I recieved from Meyer Hatchery. This bird has always been the runt and worried me greatly since it was so small compared to all the rest of the chicks. It has since had a big growth spurt, although it is still a lot smaller than all of the rest of the pullets the same age. It has always been a fiesty one despite it's size and seems to be 2nd in the pecking order. Do you think its a cockerel or pullet? Or is it too early to tell?

It looks like a pullet to me. By 10 weeks the cockerels usually have a lot more comb that is red.
Pullets won’t have anything showing at that age.
She’s beautiful!
I have Meyer birds also and I love them.

Thanks for your input! I am very much relieved now :) I was hoping it was a pullet but she just looks so different from the other pullets!

By ten weeks, you would be seeing saddle feathers and the first signs of sickle feathers shooting out from among the tail feathers. Not to mention red head gear. You are safe. Your Blue is a pullet.

Okay, great! Thanks so much!
