What does e allele mean?
The e allele is what controls the amount of black or gold/Silver shows on the adult plumage.

These are the known e allele so far(in chickens)

E for extended black its turn birds a solid black, no red or Silver(when in its homozygous state). Black Marans

ER originally called Extended black Restricted but later known as Birchen, on males they have black wing triangle, also called Crow Wing. Black Copper Marans

e+, wildtype, its what Red Junglefowls are based on. Like Brown Marans

eWh: For Wheaten. Like Wheaten Marans

Thank you. Which one is preferred?

In layman's terms, blue splash Marans are splash Marans. BBS genes are the same throughout and splash breeds true. Splash Copper Marans are just Black Copper Marans, but splash, lol. Black CopperxSplash Copper would produce 100% Blue Copper Marans. Blue copperxBlue Copper is a lot more complicated and will produce 25% blacks, 25% Splash, and 50% blue.
What will splash x splash produce?

I thought splash and splash would not result in splash chicks. I read that to get splash you breed blue maran with blue maran to get 50% blue, 25% black and 25% splash? I was wondering if you bred a splash to a blue if the ratio of splash would change?
I know this post is a few years old, but I thought this color chart for blue-black-splash might help others. This pertains to My breeds that follow blue-black-splash genetics.
