Thank you. Do you also know if you breed a black copper roo to a black maran hen, does it produce only black copper chicks? They are Not the same.
Blue/Splash Marans are based on the Extended Black e allele.
Blue/Splash Copper Marans are based on the ER Birchen e allele.
It's the same difference between Black Marans and Black Copper Marans but with the Blue/Splash mutation.
Yes, only black... But they will be E/ER so Heterozygous for Extended Black..Thank you. Do you also know if you breed a black copper roo to a black maran hen, does it produce only black copper chicks?
So they won't be black Copper, they will be black marans?Yes, only black... But they will be E/ER so Heterozygous for Extended Black..
Correct, at least phenotypicallySo they won't be black Copper, they will be black marans?
I thought splash and splash would not result in splash chicks. I read that to get splash you breed blue maran with blue maran to get 50% blue, 25% black and 25% splash? I was wondering if you bred a splash to a blue if the ratio of splash would change? No they are not. You are looking at blue copper vs. blue, splash vs. splash copper, and black vs. black copper. Although the BBS genes pass on the same, they aren't the same variety of Marans. The above poster explained it well.
Splash x Splash: 100% Splash
Black x Black: 100% Black
Blue x Black: 50% Blue, 50% Black
Blue x Blue: 25% Black, 50% Blue, 25% Splash
Blue x Splash: 50% Splash, 50% Blue
SplashXSplash will only result in splash chicks.I thought splash and splash would not result in splash chicks. What about black x splash? No they are not. You are looking at blue copper vs. blue, splash vs. splash copper, and black vs. black copper. Although the BBS genes pass on the same, they aren't the same variety of Marans. The above poster explained it well.

What does e allele mean? They are Not the same.
