I have a Blue Swedish ducking - Dori (short for Dorien Gray).
she's always had some darker spackling throughout her that I think is really fun and unique. I noticed yesterday that one feather on her wings and I think one on her tail are "black" and have the green/blue sheen that black swedish ducks have. I absolutely love them. Just curious if when she molts if there is a chance of losing these feathers or even gaining more?
I know the blue coloring is recessive.

This is my first blue swedish duck (i currently have a black swedish) and I am not an expert on how duck coloring/genetics work outside of some of the breeds bleaching when they get older.

Not a great picture but you can kinda see the dark feather on her tail

Blue is incompletely dominant which means that when you have no blue alleles your duck is black. Two blue alleles makes white or really light gray called silver. But, when you have only one blue allele you end up with something in the middle between black and white, aka blue. But, there is leakage and so some feathers end up darker or lighter. That is what you are seeing. I suspect it could change with molting.

Thanks for that explanation and correcting my error on what color is dominant!
That's really interesting. It'll be fun to see what happens as she gets older

Sorry, I’m a high school Biology teacher, hazard of the trade!

I have a duck that looks like a Lavender Swedish (Blue and Chocolate, she is a Khaki Swedish cross). I love that she has a few odd feathers of only blue or chocolate.
