Not any real updates or anything, honestly. Taffy lived for 4-5 days before dying and that was my only experience with this deformity, so I don't know how to really help. I did wet their mash to make it easier for her to eat, but I think the real issue was her getting enough to drink. Maybe you could try syringing water to make sure she gets enough to drink? She may or may not grow out of it...sorry, I don't have any definite answers.
That's very, very close to what mine looked like, it was a little shorter on the top though. He never gained weight or grew bigger than the size of a week-old. He was doing just fine though, until he wasn't. He passed away with no warning the night before his 3rd week birthday. If yours is growing normally, it's probably okay.
I'm sorry that you lost your duck. That's always sad, and it's especially hard when they are little, because they are so cute. Thanks for the advice. I've already wet the food. She's going through the motions of eating and drinking and tipping her head back, but it's hard to say how much is going down. I guess time will tell. The bottom of her bill is longer than the top, and the top and bottom are off center from one another.
I got mine from Metzer as well. I have two Blue Swedish from there who are totally fine, though. As you said, there may be something genetic to blame. I've contacted them. Thanks for the information. I'll keep an eye on her growth and progress. If she isn't going to make it, I don't suppose there's much I can do, but I'll try to keep her eating and drinking and hope for the best.
Yeah, Metzer is where Taffy came from. I've had 3 blue swedish ducklings from them die. After Taffy, I ordered another ( that i have posted in this thread ) along with a duclair and that one died suddenly within the 48 hour guarantee, so they sent two replacements and one of those replacements died. The last replacement that died looked like its' bill was a little longer than it should've been. It seems like Metzer's blue swedish breeding stock has some issues.
Well, my Black Swedish is over 4 weeks old and still with us. Her bill has gotten more deformed, and it seems that the bottom is growing properly, but the top isn't. She seems to be managing to eat and drink enough, for now. She's growing and is nearly the same size as the other ducklings, though my kids have already dubbed her "Minnie", which was originally a play on her small size. I asked Metzer for a refund, which they gave me, as they said it would only get worse. I feel sorry for her, but she seems determined to hang in there as long as she can.
