Blue Wheaten Ameraucana Breeder

Wow! Those Wheatens are beautiful! And could the Wheaten in that avatar look anymore comfortable on her shoulder?

Great pictures!

Total "newbie" question, here. Why does the roo in all these photos look so much darker in color? Is it always like that?

When hatching them, do the male chicks look darker like this early on (like at one month) and does that help with sexing them? Anyone have photos of the male/female chicks about that age?

Just curious!

Thanks!

You can sex them at a young age because of the difference in coloring. The two I had hatch were both girls, so I don't have pics of the difference, unfortunately. It's like sexing Faverolles, though.

They're the prettiest little chicks--a very pale flaxen, and I love puffy faced babies. I'm actually surprised that mine are out in all weather. My other chickens all dislike the snow immensely, but these girls will brave anything. They also have very peepy little chick voices compared to the rest, even though they are... what seven months, now?

They're my favorites by far. Galatea actually likes to have her belly rubbed...
