Ok now that I think about my chicks and who the possible parents are since I don't know who actually layed the eggs etc.I wonder what can I breed to get the blue. The chicks I hatched this past fall were hen blue cochin roo was white leghorn, all the chicks were white. So then now I have a blue chick so if the roo bred the hens would this give white or would some be blue?I also have barred rocks crossed w/white cochin so could 1 of those girls been bred to the white roo and have the blue baby?

oh well.I don't have a blue hen just the whites that had a blue momma. So anyways If you breed 2 recessive whites I take it you get white

Ohh, i thought you said you HAVE blue hen and a white leghorn, and were questioning the chicks? Crossing two birds with both of the blue genetics (or just about any color really) will most likely throw some that color.. Especially if the birds are brother sister as this intensifies the traits.

I'm not sure I quite understand which colours you have there & who is the parent of whom.

While leghorns are dominant white so when crossed with the blue all of the offspring would most likely be white (if the male carried two white genes). If you breed the offspring together ought to get some blues & blacks possibly some blue cuckoo & black cuckoo, as well as a lot more whites.

Whatever you breed your white leghorn male to the offspring will most likely be white. The white cochins, however, are usually recessive white, meaning when bred to a colour it will usually not show in the offspring.

If you cross a barred rock with a blue you will get some blues.
If you use the white cochin to the blue, you ought to get some blue. If you cross the offspring of the white leghorn t& the blue hen onto a blue they would be expected to have at least some blue offspring.

ok that helps thanks. The egss I hatched from a farmer were hen blue cochin, roo was white leghorn. All my eggs hatched into white.I then had the roo breeding with the hens of that hatch which also were white but carried the blue gene jusst as he did and out came a blue chick, but I also hatched out some barred rocks which were from a farmer not my eggs and they were white cochin, crossed with barred rock.Out of those I just kept the hens which were all barred but some had some leg feathering and lighter barred coloring. So it sounds like the chick could have been from either of those hens sorry such a long posst.

I then had the roo breeding with the hens of that hatch

To which roo are you referring, the farmer's white leghorn or a male hatched from the farmers eggs (half white leghorn) or a different male?
